Ox Yoke Retreat is situated in the scenic high desert in Twentynine Palms, California, approximately 150 miles east of Los Angeles. Paramahansa Yogananda spent much time in the Twentynine Palms desert, meditating deeply and working on his writings. Ever thoughtful of others, he envisioned a similar oasis of serenity where devotees could find peace, strength, and spiritual renewal.

This dream was realized when Self-Realization Fellowship made the Ox Yoke property available to a committee of lay disciples, who assumed responsibility for its care and management. The committee transformed the three authentic adobe structures into retreat houses with modern facilities. In a radiant desert setting, Ox Yoke, with its rugged beauty and charm, now provides the ideal atmosphere for silence, solitude, and meditation.

Ox Yoke Retreat is available to Self-Realization Fellowship Kriyabans, or students of the SRF lessons accompanied by a Kriyaban. Accommodations are separate for men and women except that one married couple may occupy a retreat house. Children sixteen years or older may accompany their parents. No pets please.

Consult your temple Ox Yoke Coordinator for scheduling a retreat and making arrangements for accomodations. The coordinator can also advise you on what is necessary to bring.

Follow the directions listed below.

From Los Angeles: Take either Interstate 10 (San Bernardino Freeway) east toward Palm Springs or California 60 (Pomona Freeway) east until it merges with Interstate 10 east.

From Orange County: Take California 91 (Riverside Freeway) east to Riverside. Then take California 60 east until it merges with Interstate 10 east.

From San Diego: Take Interstate 15 north to California 60. Take California 60 east until it merges with Interstate 10 east.
While travelling east on Interstate 10, about four miles past the Palm Springs exit, stay in the right lane and watch for the Twentynine Palms - Yucca Valley - Highway 62 sign. Take California 62 about forty-five miles to Twentynine Palms (about a one-hour drive). As you enter the Twentynine Palms city-limits, watch on the right for Eucalyptus Avenue. Take a right on the next street which is Estrella Ave. Continue on Estrella for two blocks. The retreat entrance is immediately on the right, past Juanita Drive. As you enter the grounds, signs will indicate the location of each house.
From Phoenix: Take Interstate 10 west to Desert Center. Then Take California 177 north until it merges with California 62. Take California 62 about 52 miles to Twentynine Palms (about a one-hour drive). After you pass through the main part of Twentynine Palms and over a small hill you will see Estrella Ave on your left. It is just before the new Rite Aid building. Turn left on Estrella Ave. Continue on Estrella for two blocks. The retreat entrance is immediately on the right, past Juanita Drive. As you enter the grounds, signs will indicate the location of each house. The distance to The Ox Yoke Retreat from Phoenix is about 282 miles, and the drive time is about 4 1/2 to 5 hours.
